Brisbane Seed Savers

Date Founded:
2008-10

Coordinator, Donna McCallum

Brisbane Seed Savers was started to bring together people of all levels of experience with gardening to share their experiences and learn, both together and from each other, how to grow organic heirloom & heritage OP vegetables that are locally adapted to our climate and save their seeds for future generations.

Brisbane Local Food (http://brisbanelocalfood.ning.com/) is a forum that is used by members as a way of sharing our experiences and bragging about our gardens through creating forum questions, posting relevant resources, creating blogs and uploading photos.

'This site was created to build capacity in the Brisbane community for growing, buying, producing, selling and sharing local food, products, services and information, because these things are important. It just seems like a good and useful thing to do :)'

Members usually meet monthly at each others houses - although excursions are also organised.  These meetings are informal although there are sometimes speakers on specific topics relevant to our gardens.  They are an opportunity to get together in a friendly, open environment and share any excess seeds, produce or other gardening materials that are available.

Update 2nd February 2010

For your information, Brisbane Seed Savers is looking into hosting an Open
Garden Visit through Australian Open Gardens - this has recently been opened
up to vegetable gardens in Queensland.

I will keep you informed of our progress.

Thanks, Coordinator, Donna McCallum
