Seed Savers Network Virtual Tour

2 Seed Bank

The seed bank receives seeds from members of the public and subscribers to Seed Savers from around Australia. Each batch is inspected, recorded and tested before being packetted for sending out. Particular attention is paid to good storage regimes:- a dry and insect free environment is provided to ensure longevity.

Also in the seed bank is a library for the use of interns, staff and volunteers.



Esabel records information on incoming varieties and can search the database for specific types. Dr Vanaja Ramprasad, founder of GREEN Foundation in Bangalore, India, looking for packets of seeds suitable to take back home.

Jude with Murat and Artik of Uzbechistan in the seed bank. They work in a large agricultural NGO and intend to include seed saving of heritage varieties in their programme. Paula started as a volunteer at Seed Savers in 1995 and has catalogued the library - see the library database of 1450 volumes (as at October 2001)

 
Part of the Gardening and Organic Gardening sections of the library. Books have been gathered from around the world and many are dedicated by the authors.
