Garden |
In the area between the house and road, a
terraced orchards have been planted by continent of origin.
The most westerly, well-drained area has plants originating
around the Mediterranean, including olives, figs, mulberry,
wormwood, bay laurel, henna, pomegranate, valerian, and oregano.

| As
there was only six inches of topsoil, extra was brought
in and formed into three levels of terraces in August
1999. |

Participants
of the training course in October 1999 helped to smother
the Kikuyu grass Pennisetum clandestinum) that
came with the topsoil with a lot of newspaper. |

| The
newspaper was laid on very thickly around the young
trees, with 100 per cent overlap resulting in 100
per cent success. |

April
2000 and the six month old garden is doing well, with
plenty of mulch and green manure shrubs and ground
covers. |
